Learn About Our Conestoga Farms EggsFrequently Asked Questions

The shell colour depends on the breed of the hen. Generally speaking, white-feathered hens lay white eggs, and brown-feathered hens lay brown eggs. Nutritionally, both brown and white eggs are the same unless the feed is enhanced for speciality eggs like Omega-3.

Free Run eggs come from hens that roam the entire barn floor. Some of these barns may be equipped with multi-tiered aviaries.

Free Range eggs come from hens that roam the barn floor and when weather permits, go outside to pasture.

Organic eggs come from Free Range hens that are fed Certified Organic feed.

Our hens that produce Omega-3 + Lutein eggs are fed a diet that includes marigold extract, a natural source of lutein. The vibrant golden color of marigold is transferred to the yolk to make it naturally golden.

The hens that lay Omega-3 + Lutein eggs are fed marigold extract (which is orange in colour) as a natural source of lutein. What the hen is fed passes naturally to the egg, so the marigold in the hen’s feed adds lutein and gives the yolk the darker yellow colour that you love.

On the other hand, Conestoga Farms’ other eggs are not enhanced with lutein. No lutein enhancement means no marigold extract in the hen’s feed. No marigold extract in the feed means a paler yolk compared to our Omega-3 + Lutein eggs.

But hey – lutein or no lutein – eggs are healthy and a great source of protein.

Yes. Be assured that there are no antibiotic residues in Conestoga Farms eggs.

No. Conestoga Farms is not one big farm, it is a brand that supports many local family farms in southwestern Ontario to bring their eggs to tables in Ontario.
